Trumpet Blowing

At SRA GHQ we prefer to leave the trumpet blowing to others. This year we are giving the SRA trumpet a wee toot to mark the occassion of a another SRA first.

2014 was a big year for our self-drive touring arrangements. At one point we had 55 travellers motoring their way accross various parts of Asia on a variety of enterprises in vehicles that were either vintage, classic or hot off the showroom floor.  Of course there were breakdowns and occassional crisis but all 55 travellers and their chariots made it to their various finish lines in one piece.

We got out the trumpet to mark the first ever crossing by motorcycle of the India-Myanmar border from Imphal to Moreh. In May we learned that  the door might be opening just a crack for special permission to be granted for trans-Myanmar self drive touring. Three Kiwi riders were keen to take the opportunity and the full story and happy ending can be found on www.worldbybike.com/burma.

Riders and self drive enthusiasts should take a deep breath because this may yet turn out to have been a ‘one off ‘. The permission process was lengthy, tourturous, uncertain and expensive.  In the meantime we are happy to have the credit on our CV.
