Sikkim Adventure

Our touring style trip to Sikkim will take you into a region of rugged mountains, deep valleys and dense forests. This little region squeezed into a corner of the Himalaya’s has a unique culture and fabulous scenery. Our 15 day tour will take you to Rhododendron forest sanctuaries, far flung villages and Raj era hill stations where you can enjoy easy walks, ride a heritage railway and experience village hospitality.

Itinerary at a glance
Day 1: Siliguri to Gangtok
This morning our representative will meet your flight at Bagdogra International Airport. After arrival set out for the drive to Gangtok about four hours away via the scenic Teesta River valley.
Stop along the way for views and lunch. Check in at the hotel.

Day 2: Gangtok
Today set out for sightseeing around Gangtok. There is a lot to see and we have selected some of the highlights beginning with a visit to Rumtek Monastery and Namgyal Institute of Tibetology. We will also visit the Govt Handcraft Centre and Enchey Monastery. Evening walk through the MG Marg and local market.

Day 3: Gangtok to Lachung
This morning depart for the drive to Lachung. The distance is only 100km but the journey will take about 6hrs with stops along the way at Bakthang waterfall, Kanchenjunga view, Kabi and Phoning Monastery.

Day 4: Lachung
Set out today for an excursion into the Yumthang Valley to the Singba Rhododendron Sanctuary and beyond as far as zero point if border zone restrictions permit. Return to Lachung in the afternoon.

Day 5: Lachung to Gangtok
Retrace the route back to Gangtok today. Along the way stop at Naga falls and Kodyang Gompa.
Arrive back at the Gangtok hotel late PM. Free time for the rest of the day.

Day 6: Gangtok to Yuksom
Yuksom in west Sikkim is today's destination about 5hrs drive away beyond the Rangeet River on the slopes of Kanchenjunga. Along the way visit the Tashiding monastery.

Day 7: Yuksom
After breakfast enjoy an easy day sightseeing in and around Yuksom. Walk to Dubdi Monastery, Norbughang Chorten and around the village.

Day 8: Yuksom to Pelling
It is a relatively short distance ‘as the crow flies’ to Pelling but a twisty 2hrs by road. Along the way there are waterfalls, viewpoints and a short walk into Kechopalri Lake. In Pelling visit the Pemayangtse Monastery and Sangha Choling monastery including the 135 feet tall statue of Chenrizi.

Day 9: Pelling to Rinchenpong
After breakfast make a leisurely departure by road to Rinchenpong. There are two route options, both about 50km and 2hrs duration. Overnight at the lovely heritage Yangsum Farmhouse.

Day 10: Rinchenpong
Enjoy easy walks and stunning mountain views in Rinchenpong to Reesum monastery and villages in the local vicinity of the Farmhouse.

Day 11: Rinchenpong
Today set out for an excursion to Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary. The drive takes about an hour 30mins via Hilley and Okhrey It is an easy walk 1 hour walk in the Sanctuary. Later walk back to Hilley and drive back to the Farmhouse.

Day 12: Rinchenpong to Darjeeling
The drive down to Darjeeling is an twisty scenic and interesting 60km. Stop for lunch along the way and expect to arrive at the hotel in Darjeeling late in the afternoon.

Day 13: Darjeeling
There is much to do and plenty of interest in and around Darjeeling. Today we plan to take a two-hour excursion on the ‘Toy’ heritage railway. Make a leisurely walk around the town centre and visit some of the local sights.

Day 14: Darjeeling
Today make an early start for the 15km drive to Tiger Hill to enjoy the sunrise. Return to Darjeeling for further sightseeing and then take the rest of the day at leisure for shopping or relaxing.

Day 15: Darjeeling to Siliguri and conclude
Head back down hill to the airport today. Connect with your homeward flight and conclude our arrangements.
