Here's a great trip for travellers who want more from a a trip to India than pink palaces. Our 2019 touring style trip to India's eastern states of Assam, Nagarland and Manipur will dish up some unusual and colourful experiences. Our houseboat journey on the Brahmaputra River will include wildlife watching at Poitora Wild life Sanctuary and a visit to the silk- weaving town of Sualkuchi. Our journey includes Kaziranga National Park and spectacular Hornbill Festival at Kohima in Nagarland.USD

Itinerary at a glance
Day 1 Commence at Guwahati
Our representative will meet you on arrival at Guwhati airport. We have some sightseeing in Guwahati planned before transfer to Houseboat. Dinner and overnight on houseboat.
Day 2 Cruise to Sualkuchi
This morning set off downstream to the silk- weaving town of Sualkuchi. Explore the town and observe the process of silk manufacture, from cocoon to spinning and dyeing, and to hand-weaving into exquisite saris (mekhela chador). Re-board the boat and continue upstream to Guwahati to Uzanbazar Ghat; disembark for a short walk along the quiet riverfront or visit the local market and emporium. Dinner and overnight on the houseboat.
Day 3 Cruise to Poitora Wildlife Sanctuary
Today set off upstream and disembark to visit Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary. This small park has a sizeable population of one-horned rhinos and we shall be unlucky if we do not spot some. After the jeep safari return to the boat. Dinner and overnight on the houseboat.
Day 4 Drive to Shillong
Leave the houseboat and transfer to vehicles for the 4 hours drive to Shillong, a hill station (1525m asl) in northeast India and capital of the state of Meghalaya.
Day 5 Shillong
Best known as the Scotland of the East It’s known for the manicured gardens at Lady Hydari Park. Nearby, Ward’s Lake is surrounded by walking trails. North, the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures features displays on the region’s native people. Waterfalls include the Elephant Falls to the southwest. East of here, forested Shillong Peak offers panoramic views.
Day 6 To Kaziranga National Park
Today there is a full day’s drive today to Kaziranga National Park (250 kms – approx. 6-7 hrs). The road will be slow going but the wayside life and times of the locals will provide interest. Tea stops are almost mandatory and lunch will be taken at a local restaurant along the way.
Day 7 Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga National Park is a refuge for elephants & two thirds of the world's remaining Great One-Horned Rhinoceros. Today set out by jeep with local guides for a day wildlife watching
Day 8 To Jorhat
Today have breakfast at Kaziranga. There is no rush to get away this morning. Jorhat is only 113km up the road and although an important urban centre in Assam State there is more to see along the way that at Jorhat itself.
Day 9 To MokoChung
Today set off to the heart of the Nagaland hills to day to Mokochung the hill top urban hub and cultural nervecentre of the Ao people which is economically and politically the most important urban centre in northern Nagaland.
Day 10 To Kohima
Today the route winds along the crest of the Nagaland hills. The distance is only 150km but there is much of interest in the roadside communities along the way. Expect the journey will take most of the day.
Day 11 Kohima sightseeing
This morning our sightseeing stops will include the Garrison Hill WWII cemetery and city market.
Day 12 Kohima Hornbill Festival
Today we plan a full day out at the Hornbill festival site where all the varied tribes of Nagaland gather to present an annual cultural festival that is unrivalled in this part of Asia.
Day 13 Kohima to Imphal
Today set off down the road to Imphal. On the way pass milestone 109, the spot where British
and Indian forces joined up to end the siege of Impal and drive the Japanese forces back into Burma.
Day 14 Imphal and Loktak Lake
This morning visit to the local market and Loktak Lake – the largest fresh water lake in the north-east . Afternoon time to relax at the hotel or for free time in Imphal.
Day 15 Conclude
Conclude and transfer to the airport for departure. (breakfast only today)
