Kashmir-Leh Pashmina Road
Join us on this discovery style journey along the historic Pashmina Road from picturesque Kashmir to spiritual Ladakh.A houseboat sojourn on Srinagar's tranquil Dal Lake with time to visit the famous Shalimar gardens and Mohgul era sites. We will explore the alpine zone in Gulmarg before taking the road over the Zoji La to cross the Himalaya Mountains and follow the Indus River upstream to Kargil, Alchi and Temisgam where we spend two nights in an authentic Ladakh village. Continue to Leh, the historic capital of Ladakh with its imposing Tibetan style castles and monasteries where we have two days for sightseeing. From Leh drive over the Khardung La pass (5,359m asl) into the Nubra Valley for two nights before returning to Leh and departing back to Delhi.

Itinerary at a glance
Day 1 - Arrive Delhi
Met on arrival and transfer to hotel (no meals today)
Day 2 - Delhi to Srinager
Transfer to airport for flight to Srinager. Met on arrival by our representative and transfer to the Dal Lake for a three night stay in a traditional house boat. Spend the remainder of the afternoon settling in and enjoying the tranquility of Dal Lake.
Day 3 - Srinagar
Today we are off around the spectacular array of Mughal era Gardens. We first visit regal Shalimar Garden overlooking the Dal Lake. Shalimar is one of the three remaining "Light of the Moon" gardens of the Mughal era and is one of the most stunning gravity operated water gardens in the world. Also visit Chashma Shahi garden built over a spring of fresh water and Pari Garden - the Palace of the Fairies. After lunch, visit the 1586 fort built by Mughal Emperor, Akbar the Great.
Day 4 - Srinagar
Early start today to visit the floating markets; we will be paddled in shikaras along the misty early morning waterways to the vegetable and flower market. As the sun rises, return to the Sukoon for a leisurely breakfast. Later this morning cross the lake to visit Srinigar old town to visit the Hindu Temple with stunning views of the old city and explore the historic Bazaars and time permitting visit 14th century Jama Masjid, and Shah Hamadan Mosque.
Day 5 - to Gulmarg
Drive to Gulmarg (2730m) Indias premier alpine resort amongst the fir and cedar forests of the Himalaya foothills.
Day 6 - Gulmarg
Weather permitting go via gondola up to Khilanmarg for great views out towards Nanga Parbat and the Western Himalaya mountains. Return to Gulmarg for walks and photography. If the weather is not so good, there are plenty of pleasant walking options in the forest.
Day 7 - to Kargil
Drive to Sonamarg and cross the Zolji La into the catchment of the Indus river. We have 200km to cover and will be on the road for approx 7hrs. Kargil was an important transit point for caravans on their way to and from China, Tibet and Kashmir till 1949. Today it is a major stop over for the travellers to Srinager and Zanskar. En route lunch in Sonamarg (the Valley of gold).
Day 8 - to Temisgam
Head away from Kargil this morning following the Wakha River to Mulbekh where there is a carved Buddha standing stone. Continue over the Namikala and Fotula Passes to reach the spectacular monastery at Lamayuru. Continue downstream and meet the Indus River and follow upstream to Temisgam.
Day 9 - Temisgam
Relaxing day in the village. Options include visiting the 15th century Tingmosgant Monastery and an easy walk up valley to Ang Village and further as the day permits.
Day 10 - to Alchi
Follow the Indus River up valley to Alchi. Time to visit Alchi Gompa, the jewel among Ladakh's monastic foundations with its 1000 year old wall paintings.
Day 11 - to Leh
Continue to Leh, En route visit the Likir Monastery for a short tour.
Day 12 - Leh
Sightseeing today to the old town historic sites. Leh is the ancient capital of Ladakh and its King once commanded a huge civilisation stretching from Baltistan in the west, almost as far as Lhasa in Tibet. The old town is a maze of narrow streets, temples and bazaars and is a great place to explore. This evening enjoy a cultural programme of traditional song and dance.
Day 13 - Leh
This morning we are off for a 60km round trip to Stok, for a visit to the Royal Palace, to Stakna, the most picturesque of Lehs Monasteries and back to Leh by lunch time by way of Thikse Monastery. Afternoon free time in Leh to relax or browse in the bazaar.
Day 14 - to Nubra Valley
Early start to drive to the summit of the main road access to the Nubra Valley at Khardung La pass (5,359m asl). Continue to Hunder to Overnight at the hotel. Late PM visit the Hunder sand dunes.
Day 15 - Nubra Valley
A full day to explore the Nubra/Shyok valleys. This morning we head up the Nubra valley to the end of the motor road at Panamik where there are hot springs. Tonight we will stay at a Sumar village in a family guesthouse.
Day 16 - return to Leh
Today we get back on the road to Leh and follow the zig zags back to the Khardung La. Expect to arrive back in Leh by early afternoon for a late lunch.
Day 17 - Depart
Early breakfast and transfer to airport for flight to Delhi. No services in Delhi.
