Enchanting Bhutan

Take an in-depth look at Bhutan's stunningly diverse natural and cultural heritage on this touring style journey.

The itinerary is timed to include the Bumthang local festival. We may also see the rare Black necked Cranes that return to winter over in the Phobjikha wetlands in October.

We visit the key provincial centres and make easy short and part day walks, excursions to wildlife sanctuaries, nature reserves and monasteries.

Itinerary at a glance
Day 1 - Arrive Paro (2200m) to Thimpu
Arrive Paro, drive 1.5hrs to Thimpu. Enroute visit an ancient temple. Local tour at Thimphu.

Day 2 -Thimpu
Sightseeing Thimpu including a Painting school, textile museum, local paper factory, Takin enclosure and the large Buddha statue.

Day 3 -Thimpu
Trek to Tango/Cheri monastery through old growth sub alpine forests. Opportunity to view wildlife including mountain goats, Langurs (long tailed monkeys) and birds. Walking time approx 3.5 hours return

Day 4 - To Punakha
Drive to Punakha via the 3000m Dochula Pass. En route visit Botanical Park to walk in the giant Rhododendron forest

Day 5 - Punakha
Full day for sightseeing in Punakha including a visit to the Dzong (Ancient fortress) showcasing traditional architecture and walk across rice fields through the village to visit a temple perched on a hill with a birds eye view of Punakha valley.

Day 6 - To Phobjikha Valley
Drive to Phobjikha Valley (2.5 hours) Bhutan’s largest wetland valley and winter habitat for the endangered Black Necked Cranes. This afternoon sightseeing and rural tour in the valley.

Day 7 - To Chummey Valley
Drive to Chummey Valley via Trongsa (3 hrs) Sightseeing in Trongsa including the Tower Museum.

Day 8 - to Yonkola (Mongar)
Morning drive to visit old Monastery. Continue to Yonkola (in Mongar district). Enroute time for a short walk in Ura Village.

Day 9 - to Mongar
Drive to Mongar town (1.5hrs), enroute sightseeing. This afternoon sightseeing in Mongar town.

Day 10 Mongar
Full day excursion to Lhuntse. Sightseeing in Khoma and meet local weavers. Visit Lhuntse Dzong perched high on a hill. Also visit Giant Guru statue. Evening drive back to Yongkola.

Day 11 - to Bumthang
Full day's drive to Bumthant (5.5hrs) - sightseeing en route

Day 12 -Bumthang
Watch local mask dances and other cultural performances as part of the Jakar Festival as well as other sightseeing around Bumthang.

Day 13 - Bumthang
Day tour to Tang Valley approx 1 hr drive. Visit local family museum and walk in the village. Option to stay in Bumthang to watch the Festival.

Day 14 - To Paro
Morning at leisure. Afternoon transfer to the airport for the afternoon flight to Paro.

Day 15 - Paro
Full day walk to visit Tigers nest Monastery - Bhutan’s most popular cultural icon.

Day 16 - Paro
Drive to the Pass for start of 4 or 5 hour walk with panoramic views of Paro and Haa Valley. Option spend time at the Pass and visit Haa Valley by road. Farewell dinner tonight with local dance troupe.

Day 17- Depart
Transfer to airport for departure flight.
