Itinerary at a glance
Day 1 - Arrive Bishkek
Our representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel. No other activities today. Dinner tonight is included.
Day 2 - Bishkek
Set out for a full day tour of Bishkek's cultural sites and stroll along the city's leafy boulevards.
Day 3 - to Chychkan Gorge
Today we head off from Bishkek travelling west along the line of the trade route towards the ancient Silk Road city of Taraz.
Day 4 - to Osh
We get away down valley after breakfast on the 420km journey to Osh. We follow the Uzbek border for nearly 200km skirting the Ferghana to Uzgen where we’ll take a break from the road to visit the Kharakanid mausoleum and minaret. Osh is a further 50km.
Day 5 - Osh
Today we take a break from the road for a chance to explore Osh.
Sightseeing will include a walk in Alymbek Datka Lenin statue with views of Sulaiman Mountain and visit the historical museum located in a cave on the mountain. We can also visit the colourful Osh Bazaar, said to be the largest in Central Asia.
Day 6 - To Khujand via Batken-Isfara border
We are back on the road today heading for the Batken-Isfara border with Tajikistan at the great Kayrakumb reservoir on the Sirdarya River.
Farewell your Kyrgyzstan guide and driver and cross to Tajikistan where our Tajik guide will be waiting.
Day 7 - Khujand
Our plan today is for sightseeing in Khujand, one of the most famous of all Silk Road cities. There is a lot to see. Some of the iconic sites are Panjshanbe market, Sheikh Muslihitdin Complex, museums, ancient city’s wall, fortress and Bofanda Mosque.
Day 8 - to Sarytag Village
Depart Khujand for Istaravshan. Stop here for a couple of hours to explore this ancient Silk Road city then continue across the Turkestan mountains to Sarytag village beyond Iskanderkul Lake in the heart of the scenic Fan mountains.
Day 9 - Sarytag
Today we have time to explore and make easy walks in the vicinity of the lake and village. There are several options. Conditions permitting it may be possible to take a picnic into the Nature Reserve or one of the adjacent valleys.
Day 10 - to Dushanbe
Today we will set out along the stunningly scenic M34 on the 140km drive to Dushanbe via the Anzob tunnel.
Day 11 - Dushanbe
An easy day around the leafy boulevards, cafes and coffee shops in the inner city today. We’ll make a tour on foot to visit the city Bazaar, National Museum of Antiquities, art saloons etc. PM free time. Overnight Dushanbe.
Day 12 - to Kurgan- Tyube
Today set out by road for the 250km drive to southern Tajikistan to explore the ancient sites and monuments at Khoja Mashad complex and Ajina Tepa archaeological site near Kurgan-Tyube. Overnight at Kurgan-Tyube
Day 13 - to Dushanbe
Return to Dushanbe today via Kurgan-Tyube-Vose to visit the Khulbuk Citadel, capital of the ancient Khuttal Region of Bactria - Kulyab and to Dangara to visit the memorial complex of Mir Ali Khamadoni the prominent 14th century poet and philosopher Overnight in Dushanbe.
Day 14 - Dusanbe
Today transfer to the airport and depart.
