Discover Myanmar's wonderful cultural heritage and stunning scenery on this touring style journey tracing historic trade routes to the ancient Burmese kingdom of Pagan.

We fly up country to Lashio on the historic Burma Road, then visit ancient Hisipaw in the heart of Shan State. Take the train to Pyin oo Lwin and onto Mandalay by road. Cruise down the Ayeywarwaddy River to the spectacular archaeological site at Bagan before a flight to Inle Lake to visit the magical floating handcraft villages.

Itinerary at a glance
Day 1 - Arrive Yangon
Met on arrival and transfer to hotel. This evening visit the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda, one of Myanmar's most sacred places.

Day 2 - Yangon
Sightseeing of Yangon including a 1 hr circular train ride around Yangon, the downtown heritage area, Pansoedan jetty and this evening visit China Town with its lively market and ice cold beer at the famous 19th St BBQ.

Day 3 - to Lashio
AM flight to Lashio. PM visit Quan Yin San Temple, Mansu Pagoda and Lashio Central Market.

Day 4 - to Hsibaw
Depart for 2 hr drive to Hsibaw, on arrival, an upriver cruise (1hr) along the scenic Dothawaddy River. Walk (45min) through the fruit plantations to the 150 year old Tai (Shan) Monastery. Return to Hsibaw. Later today visit the Shan Chieftain's residence built during Colonial times.

Day 5 - to Pyin oo Lwin (by train)
Option this morning to visit the local market (the market starts at 3am!), return to hotel for breakfast and leisurely morning. Short drive to Naung Peng railway station for train to Pyin oo Lwin. The train journey will take 4 hrs and crosses the famous Gokteik viaduct.

Day 6 - Pyin U Lwin
A full day to explore the historic hill station of Pyin U Lwin. Time at leisure and an opportunity to visit the Botanic Garden and later today visit Pwe Kauk Waterfall and Pyi Chit Pagoda.

Day 7 - to Mandalay
Just a 2 hr drive to Mandalay, the last capital of the Myanmar Kingdom. Sightseeing today includes Mahamuni Buddha, the Old Palace grounds, Kuthodaw Pagoda and concludes with panoramic views from Mandalay Hill.

Day 8 - Mandalay
Travel by boat to visit Mingun to visit the unfinished Pathodawgyi Palance and other sites. Return to Mandalay and after lunch a short drive to Ava where we'll use pony carts around Ava before continuing by road to the ancient capital of Amarapura. This evening walk across the 200 year old U Bein bridge and view sunset ovr the bridge before returning to Mandalay.

Day 9 - to Bagan (by boat)
A leisurely day today as we cruise down river to Bagan. En route we plan to stop at a typical river village. Arrive in Bagan early evening.

Day 10 - Bagan
Sightseeing around the Bagan Archaeological World Heritage area today. We'll also visit a lacquer ware workshop and NyaungOo market. Conclude the day with stunning sunset views over the pagoda fields.

Day 11 - to Kalaw
Drive to Mt Popa - the abode of Nats (spirits). Option to climb the 777 steps to the summit. After lunch drive to Kalaw, a tranquil hill station high on the western edge of the Shan Plateau.

Day 12 - to Inle Lake
This morning, a short sightseeing visit around Kalaw before driving (1hr) to Pindaya famous for its limestone caves containing some 6000 Buddhas of various sizes. Continue to Nyaung Shwe Jetty to visit a 19th century wooden monastry before checking into our hotel on the Lake.

Day 13 - Inle Lake
Sightseeing by longtail boat including a visit to the floating market and craft operators around the Lake.

Day 14 - Inle Lake / Indein
This morning visit a floating market before continuing to a small Pa O tribe village and a short walk to the 13th century Indein pagoda and the ruins of hundreds of ancient pagodas, some hidden in the vegetation.

Day 15 - to Yangon
Drive to Heho airport for flight to Yangon. After lunch visit Bogyoke Aung San (Scott) market famous for its colonial architecture and cobblestone streets. Rest of day at leisure.

Day 16 - Depart
Transfer to the airport for your departure flight. (Breakfast only today)
