Commence in Hanoi on this touring style journey from the misty heights of Sapa to the tropical South China Sea. In Sapa we visit ethnic villages and enjoy the tribal market day spectacle. Return to Hanoi by overnight train down the Red River valley for a spot of city culture before heading inland to the hill tribe region of Mai Chau to explore villages and countryside.

We make an overnight junk cruise on stunningly scenic Ha Long bay then head south to the Imperial city of Hue and the World Heritage listed city of Hoi An on the central coast. Continue to Ho Chi Minh and conclude with an overnight Mekong cruise.

Itinerary at a glance
Day 1 - Arrive Hanoi
Our representative will meet you on arrival at Hanoi and transfer you to the hotel. There are no activities planned for the rest of the day. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 2 - Hanoi sightseeing
We'll explore the narrow lanes and traditional shop houses, as well as visit some of the important sights in Hanoi. This evening enjoy a water puppet theatre performance.

Day 3 - Drive to Sapa
This morning depart to drive on the national highway to Sapa. It will take most of the day through picturesque scenery into the hill country around Sapa.

Day 4 - Sapa
A full day for easy treks in the Muong Hoa Valley with visits to villages.

Day 5 - Sa Pa night train to Ha Noi
Today we plan to explore the hill tribe region of Sa Pa. There are village markets and paths to wander. Our objective is to experience the colourful market-day tribal extravaganza. Late in the day transfer to Lao Cai for the night train down to Hanoi. Overnight on the train.

Day 6 - to Halong Bay
Early arrival in Hanoi. Transfer to a hotel to freshen up before driving to Halong Bay. Board the traditional junk and head toward the secluded islands. Visit ancient limestone caves and go sea kayaking and swimming.

Day 7 - Halong cruise / Hanoi overnight
Cruise through the Bay passing Trong, Trinh Nu and Me Cung Caves. Return to the harbour early afternoon. Return to Ha Noi.

Day 8 - Transfer to Mai Chau
Drive to Mai Chau. After checking in, drive to Hmong Village (15km) home of XaLinh and Pa'OO. Walk in the village and visit the jungle of plum, peach and persimmon trees.

Day 9 - Mai Chau
Today we will be based at Mai Chau. This morning we can explore the area, visit villages and meet the locals. PM will be free time for you to relax or take cycle out and about around the paddy fields.

Day 10 - Transfer to Ha Noi flight to Hue
After breakfast we return to Ha Noi by road, and to the airport for a flight to the Royal city of Hue.

Day 11 - Hue sightseeing
We have a full day for sightseeing in Hue. Most of the sites are handy to the city and we have plenty of time. Our programme will include the ancient walled Citadel and the Imperial Palace. We will also visit the Emperor Tu Duc and Khai Dinh's tombs.

Day 12 - Drive to Hoi An
This morning, we drive south by the scenic coastal road to Hoi An via Da Nang passing the famous China Beach with its modern day sprawl of resort hotels. We continue to the UNESCO World Heritage Listed town of Hoi An. In the afternoon have a walking tour to see the highlights of this charming town.

Day 13 - Hoi An
Today we will have a cooking class, visit Hoi An's colourful market, and experience the sights, sounds and aromas of this busy market town. We board a small boat for a leisurely cruise (25 minutes) along the Hoi An River to the Red Bridge Cooking School.

Day 14 - Hoi An
Today explore the 'old' town at leisure. There is time for shopping and a chance to enjoy the 'cafe' culture of this fascinating town. Farewell dinner this evening.

Day 15 - to Da Nang - flight to Ho Chi Minh
Transfer by road to Da Nang for flight to Ho Chi Minh city.

Day 16 - Ho Chi Minh
A vibrant metropolis, Ho Chi Minh is a mix of traditional and modern life. Visit the historic centre, strolling along Dong Khoi Street and through the heart of old colonial Saigon.

Day 17 - Mekong Delta cruise
Drive to Can Tho to board the cruise vessel. Enjoy a panoramic cruise with lunch on board. After lunch a land excursion to walk through orchards and small villages. Late afternoon return to the boat in time to watch the sunset, dinner and overnight on board.

Day 18 - Return to Ho Chi Minh and conclude
Morning cruise and late morning by small sampan to explore the small canals of Tan Phong islet. time for a bicycle ride on back roads or walk in a small village along the Mekong Canals. Return to Ho Chi Minh, transfer to the airport to depart
